How to Get Back To Work After a Pandemic

Small business owners are using this time to find new and creative ways to reach out to their customers. Online webinars, meetings via webcams and curbside pick-up and delivery have allowed businesses to continue in a more limited capacity while still meeting the needs of their customers.

As everyone slowly begins to return to a new normal, business owners can use the new tools they created during the pandemic to continue to reach out to customers and in the process potentially gain a new customer base as well. The resources that were considered necessary during the pandemic can now be used as a secondary avenue to either highlight an area of the business or meet the needs of customers in a new way.

Businesses should be utilizing online marketing such as email campaigns now more than ever before.

Websites should showcase everything available in a brick and mortar store and online purchasing should now be the norm on every website. Are you using Amazon? You might want to consider it! In addition, form and other types of paperwork should be available either online or through email. Making these forms user friendly (ie able to be filled out on a computer or tablet) will increase customer satisfaction and potential business.

This unique time can also give companies the opportunity to cross train their employees.

With some businesses working entirely from home, and others on split shifts, employees can use this time to learn new areas of the business. Departments can create documents outlining their jobs and share them with other employees. Business owners can also use this time to give their employees additional training through webinars or online certifications.

It is also important to take care of employees' mental health during this time. Flexibility in work hours, vacation time and sick leave should be considered especially for those employees who have children at home.

This is definitely a challenging time for the small business owner. There are, however, many unique and creative ways to stay in business, help customers and help the community during this difficult time.
